ShareDocView. DocSend-style document sharing, hardened as fractional CTO.

Case study · ShareDocView

Document sharing with tracking and analytics. I joined as fractional CTO to take the production system from shipping-fast to shipping-safely without slowing the founder down.

01 / Role

What fractional CTO meant here.

I joined ShareDocView as fractional CTO once it was already live with paying customers. The founder needed senior engineering judgment without hiring a full-time CTO: architecture decisions, code reviews on critical paths, security pass before bigger contracts, build-vs-buy calls on third-party services.

My role is async-first with a weekly cadence and on-call for incidents. I work in the existing repo and infra, the founder keeps everything in his name.

02 / What changed

What I helped harden.

  • · Authentication and session management hardened, audit-ready.
  • · Document upload + viewer pipeline, with tighter access controls and tracking events.
  • · Analytics layer, rebuilt for fewer queries and clearer per-document insight.
  • · Observability: structured logging, error monitoring, uptime checks, alerting.
  • · CI/CD pipeline tightened with environment promotion and rollback safety.
  • · Cost and security pass on the cloud bill.

What it looks like today.

03 / Outcome

ShareDocView ships features faster because the dangerous parts (auth, billing, deploy) are no longer the things that wake the founder at night. The fractional model gives him a senior engineering brain on retainer without the cost or commitment of a full-time hire.
